Background/FAQ

We are using several resources for the initial design of our project.

First and foremost is in game footage of the character Wheatley from the video game Portal 2. This is a compilation of many memorable moments of Wheatley. The observed design here will be modified to make it logistically possible within the 10 week period.

In order to replicate the motion of the light/eye in the center of Wheatley, we will use a LED mounted on a modified u-joint, similar to the one pictured here. We will also model the eyelids after the animatronic eyes in this video.

FAQ

Q: Who is Wheatley?

A: Wheatley is an AI with a very unique personality. He was specifically designed to be the stupidest AI in existence. He was purposed to be a dampening sphere in order to hinder the thought process of one of the most advanced AI of all time, GLaDOS (all fictional of course).

Q: What will a project like this cost?

A: We have determined that a project of this undertaking will cost around $130.00 including servos and materials. Keep in mind that this is a rough estimate, and further costs may show up down the line due to unforeseen consequences.

Q: How many servos are needed to take on this project?

A: For this project, we are using a six port servo controller, with each slot being taken up. More could be used if desired (in order to replicate the small, intricate movements as seen in the game), but six were used in order to meet time and cost constraints.
